Platform Overview

What is Staxa?

Staxa is a multi-tenant deployment platform that lets you provision fully isolated application environments for your customers. Each tenant gets its own application containers, database, subdomain, and SSL certificate, all managed through a visual dashboard or programmatic API.

Think of it as infrastructure-as-a-service for SaaS providers: instead of manually spinning up servers for each customer, you make one API call (or click a button) and Staxa handles the rest.

How It Works

Staxa runs on Kubernetes (k3s) and uses namespace-level isolation to keep tenants completely separated. When you create a tenant, the platform:

  1. Creates a Kubernetes namespace with resource quotas for CPU and memory
  2. Builds your application from a GitHub repo or container image using Buildah
  3. Provisions a database (PostgreSQL 16 or MySQL 8) inside the tenant namespace
  4. Configures networking: assigns a subdomain ({tenant-name}.staxa.dev), sets up TLS via cert-manager, and creates Traefik ingress routes
  5. Injects environment variables including database credentials and service URLs

The entire process is tracked in real-time through Server-Sent Events (SSE), so you can watch each step complete in the dashboard.

Key Concepts

  • Tenant: An isolated environment containing one or more services, a database, and networking config. This is the core unit of deployment.
  • Service: A single application container within a tenant. Tenants can have multiple services that communicate over an internal Kubernetes network.
  • Deployment: A specific build-and-release of a service. Each deployment creates a new container image and rolls it out. Previous deployments can be rolled back to.
  • Template: A pre-configured starting point with framework, runtime, and database settings already chosen. Templates speed up tenant creation.
  • API Key: A bearer token for programmatic access to the Staxa API. Keys come in live and test modes.

Supported Stacks

Staxa supports any application that can run in a container. First-class templates are available for:

  • Node.js: Next.js, Express, NestJS, Fastify, Nuxt, SvelteKit, Remix, Astro
  • Python: Django, Flask, FastAPI
  • Go: Gin, Fiber, Echo, Chi
  • Ruby: Rails, Sinatra
  • Java: Spring Boot
  • PHP: Laravel
  • Rust: Actix Web, Axum
  • C#/.NET: ASP.NET Core
  • Elixir: Phoenix

You can also deploy any custom Docker image from a public or private container registry.

Two Ways to Deploy

Dashboard: A step-by-step creation wizard that walks you through naming your tenant, connecting a GitHub repo, selecting a framework, configuring a database, setting environment variables, and deploying. Best for visual workflows and getting started.

API: Programmatic tenant creation via REST API. Create an API key, then POST /api/v1/tenants with your configuration. Best for automation, CI/CD pipelines, and building your own tooling on top of Staxa.

Both paths produce identical results: the same isolated tenant environment.
